He was drunk, and thus relaxed. Studies have shown that cats tend to relax after falling a certain distance, which lessens their injuries.

It wasn't a sudden stop. The dissipation of energy wasn't an abrupt event, but took place over the course of time.

So we start off with 30d6 for 300 feet, subtract 15d6 for being wasted, and another 10d6 for the awning. Meaning he had the equivalent of a 50 foot fall. Then the DM rolled ones and twos on those dice, and the paramedics rolled real good on their healing. :)

He is quite lucky to have even survived that fall, but... I have the feeling that the article intentionally sugar-coated the injuries. "Multiple broken bones and internal injuries," could be any number of things from a couple broken fingers and an ulcer to a broken spine and head with massive internal bleeding from several punctured organs. I'll say he's really lucky if in six months if he doesn't have any major lasting trauma.
Eh, I"m not buying all this lucky or guardian angel crap. The guy has "multiple broken bones and internal injuries. He survived the fall but his injuries sound like a life long ordeal.

I agree. Those injuries are gonna take a lot to recover from.

Why am I not surprised alcohol was involved? When "communicating" to authorities he was given a ticket for falling while under the influence FUI.

Alcohol has a way of saving the really stupid in these kind of cases. They are so lose, limber and relaxed.

I'll look for a link, but a WW2 Russian bomber crewman bailed out at more than 20,000 feet without a parachute and survived. He landed in a heavily forested area with several meters of snow on the ground, but still, that's luck. (Note he still had multiple breaks in both arms, legs, and most of his ribs but he wasn't paralyzed and was walking again in less than a year.)

How likely is it you think this guy says to himselrf:

"Man, I wish I had died. What an unlucky ***tard I am, having to deal with injuries that arn't fatal. Damnit. Maybe I should find another tall building to throw myself from. I mean, who wants to live after being so close, so close, to dying. These broken bones are such a darn nuisance, I'd rather be 6' under. I am so unlucky."
