I think that's the main problem: Too much connections, built during years of canon, novels, and setting-evolution. All the stuff is great, but over the years, they've spun a web of relationships, connections, and alliances over Faerûn, hurting the medieval/PoL inspiration and tropes of the setting.Li Shenron said:I think that FR is not Points of Light but maybe Web of Light, where all the points are strongly connected with each other... Points of Light to me implies only a minimal chance of interaction, through long travels, slow messengers, etc. FR has too many cities at relatively short distance, and too common magic that can nullify distances and time delays. "Every magic item below a max gp price is on sale" cannot be in a Points of Light settings.
It's a similar problem with Eberron and PoL - too many connections (though that was not the result of years of canon, but deliberate - and it fits Eberron much better than PoL). Connections destroy PoL, the isolated nature of communities is essential.
Cheers, LT.
