New creature to be added today: a large vermin called the Mantis Ant.

This patient carnivore remains completely still as it waits for prey to come near.
Eye Beam (Su): Once per round, as a standard action, the Mantis Ant may fire an illusionary attack from out of its eyes. The attack takes the form of the spell color spray, as cast by a 1st-level sorcerer; Will Save DC 13.
Leap (Ex): The Mantis Ant is a natural jumper. It gains a +30 competence bonus on all Jump checks, and its maximum jumping distance is not limited by height. It is considered to have a speed of 40 feet while jumping, for the purposes of determining move actions.
Skills: *Because of the Mantis Ant’s camouflage, the Hide bonus increases to +12 when the creature is surrounded by foliage.

Does CR 4 seem right? Thanks.

I suppose the eye beam could nudge it into CR 3 (although personally I'd put it at 2), but IMHO not 4.

I can't see it lasting very long against a standard (cleric, fighter, rogue, wizard) level 4 party. It should be okay in the surprise round, but after that...

Looks like a CR 3 to me, not so much because of the eye beam (although that cements it at CR 3), but because of the damage from the melee attacks.

Cool creature, btw.
