Map Folio I: Whay would you buy it?

I mean, really, I've had most of the Map-a-Week maps since they started doing 'em (the ones I dig anyway). Why on earth would anyone pay for these when they've been free for so long? Unless you don't have access to the internet, or don't want to print them yourself, I see no feasible reason to buy MFI.

So, who cares, right?

I know, but it just makes me wonder why WotC would bother and not just publish something else...

Oh well :\

I suppose this product is designed with all those who folks who never visit the website in mind. Which is actually quite a few people.

If they're actual 1-inch-scale maps, I'll definitely look into them, because that kind of product is in short (meaning "nonexistent") supply right now. If they're just maps that you wind up having to draw to scale for yourself, then who cares even if they hadn't been published online already?

I agree. I'm usually fairly willing to give game companies the benefit of the doubt when they publish something or announce something, as I'm sure there're other people that will be very interested in it even if I'm not. This is probably the first time that I've seen a product and immediately wondered what the company was thinking. Although pre-made maps are great (I love the Maps of Mystery in Dungeon, for example), I can't imagine paying money for something that's been available for free for a good long time. Felon's right; this product isn't being designed for the folks who'll visit the website/print out maps/use the Map-a-Week feature on a regular basis but for the folks that don't.

Best,
Nick

Seems like you answered your own question right there, doesn't it?

It is a product. If it looks like something you want, you exchange money for it and it is yours.

I love having lots of maps. So that has an appeal for me. That I could get other, different maps online is irrelevant.

But the fact that you can get the same maps online for free isn't.

But again, the big question is, are these maps based on a 1-inch square scale? I don't want a bunch of pretty little maps depicted on 8.5" x 11" sheets.

Yeah, I am assuming they are not, which is probably my oversight. If there are 32 1" scale maps is this $9.99 product, I will be pleasantly surprised.

Might have been a dorky question... :heh: but it's the first thing I thought of when I saw Map Folio description.
