"Marked Sourge" question (MP)

Hello, I have a question regarding Marked Sourge. I'm aware that its a pretty strong feat regardless but that's not my issue. I'm just not sure when an enemy is considered "Marked".

It's clear that an enemy becomes marked whenever you attack it, hit or miss. Furthermore, Marked Sourge allows a damage bonus against marked enemies. However, it's not clear to me whether an enemy is considered marked only once the first attack against him has actually hit or missed, or if the attack attempt in itself marks the target.

In other words, does Marked Sourge applies on the first hit a fighter makes against a target, or only on a second attack and/or during the next round?

I'm guessing it's the latter, as the former would essentially make this feat a flat damage bonus, but I'd like a confirmation nontheless. Thanks!

You have to resolve the attack one way or the other before the mark is applied; the target is marked when you attack it, not when you target it. Likewise, if you try to attack a target and it uses an immediate interrupt to teleport away, negating the attack, you don't mark it.

Thank you, thats very helpful.

Its still a powerful feat indeed.
