Marketplace forum is dead - Can we post in General?

I have noticed that the Marketplace forum is dead. The threads are not getting enough views to encourage meaningful sale or trade discussions.

Piratecat tells me that people wanted the Marketplace forum, so any releated topic must be discussed there. I was not one of these people, but even if I was, it seems the experiment has failed.

I'd like to request that the mods now allow these type of discussions to occur within the General Forum.

There are a lot of threads in General discussing the merits of one product or another in the context of what to buy next etc...

And that is all good!

But that is not much different than asking for help finding a back issue of a Dragon Magazine is it?

( I was asking for help finding copies of Dragon 275 and 277 for sale or trade in the general forum after already posting in the marketplace forum with only a few views - PKitty moved it... )

So - before we had a marketplace forum, was general disrupted by threads of this nature? If not, I'd like to request that they again be allowed.

Thanks!

Personally, I would rather not see items for sale in the general. If the marketplace forum is not getting enough attention maybe ENWorld is not the place to try to sell used items. Just my opinion. :)

Your probably right. EBay seems to fill that niche well. It just seems a shame that I cannot effectively leverage the extensive D&D community here to find something I can't find there.

Personally, I'd just as soon toss the forum and move such threads back into General. There are never very many of them, and (as our newest BigFreakinMember mentioned) it often helps to take advantage of the knowledge and collections of our members.

What do other folks think?

It's averaged about a post a day. I think any forum on this site that has that post per day ratio should be considered a failed forum.

If the purpose of moving it to General is to get more attention for that type of post, then it could then develope into a problem where it will be necessary for the marketing forum again. I would rather it stay where it is, than potentially annoy people in general.

Hmm... I wonder if most people with marketplace threads put a link to them in their sigs...?

... or go to the General Forum and post a "look here" thread with a link to Marketplace. Many people never read .sigs

I'd have no problem with "I'm trying to find this product" threads in the General forum. I think it'd be bad precedent to have folks hawking wares in there, though.

I would personally rather see what people are selling/looking to buy in General or Meta then all of the (OT) threads. But that is just my opinion. :)

And I have to agree with Wicht I don't think there is enough of them to be a problem.
