Martial Power 2 Excerpt - Combat Styles

Seems to me these feats built to be weapon specific to make your character more specialized with their chosen weapon. If you use a hammer then pick one that is based on hammers.

I see this as their attempt to make weapon specialization more viable. It's something they had said before 4e came out and seemed to me was minimalized so far.

It's another way to distinish your character from others of the same class.

It seems a bit strange to me that since the fullblade is intended to be Greatsword 2: the Apology, that there is a style feat that the greatsword can use, but not the fullblade.

As far as I can tell, the flavor of the greatsword is "a big, two-handed sword", and the flavor of the fullblade is "an EVEN BIGGER, two-handed sword", it seems that the Arkhosian Fang style ought to include fullblade too.

(and the fact that Desert Moon does include the fullblade is, flavor-wise, an accident).

Well... not everyone takes Weapon Proficiency... for some, the Greatsword IS good enough for their purposes.

As well, Goliaths, yo. Goliaths.

So, the prerequisites for these are:

specific power
specific class
AND
specific weapon

Oh, and I bet a pound a penny that fighters end up with all the most effective striker-style benefits.

I am not much a fan of the style feats that modify specific encounter powers. Feels a little too specific for my taste.
Yep. I saw those feats and thought: "So, that's what style feats are about? I'll pass."

These feats are a prime example what feats shouldn't be like: They're not self-contained, way too specialized and become less useful as more and more powers are published. Meh.

WotC has to sell something...

Actually i like it not use the fullblade. It makes not using a fullblade more viable.

Also, as you can easily see it is a feat designed for every versatile or two handed sword that does 1d10 damage.

Also i believe those weapon styles are quite cool feats as it is some kind of specialization, which is much more flavourfull than weapon expertise or focus. Instead of a bland +1 bonus per tier, you get a real benefit. And you still have more freedom in chosing your weapon.

the extra, use power xx as is just an added benefit which is about equal to a class build bonus to a power. If you chose it, be happy, if you chose one power without this rider, you still do good.

Also newer powers don´t influence those feats, because feats are designed to have exaxtly one power per level associated with them, so that an older power had to make room for a newer one.

But additional powers make it less likely that you will have a power modified by the feat. Now, the feat might cover 1/8th of the available powers at the given levels. In two years, it might cover only 1/16th of them.

Sure, maybe there will be also twice as many Weapon Style feats by then. But that's a lot of feats for one small subset of the rules. I personally would prefer feats to be a little broader in application than that.
