Martial Powers Excerpt - The Feral Spirit

I think Paragon Path are no longer necessarily limited to one power source. IIRC, paragon powers usually do not necessarily denote a power source.

They do denote a power source, but I mean, one of the Ranger paragon paths from the corebook is basically surrounded by an aura of crackling "martial" lightning.

Yeah, I forgot about that particular Ranger PP, d'oh!

I like that sort of paragon path. It provides a nice way to essentially multiclass a character. Were I in charge, we'd see a lot more of them. Same thing with Wizard of the Spiral Tower.

Its also a nice way to mix up the power sources a little, and make initial power source less of a straight jacket.

I know, I just mean that... well, this is an extremely vanilla paragon path.

The presence of new mechanics is sure to attract more attention than another dozen feats and PPs in of themselves.

I have a feeling that they are not so much showing the Feral Spirit PP as they are showcasing the fact that the book has some new game mechanics available in it (in this case, beast companions).

just my thought on why they chose this to preview.

But as a whole, looks interesting. I always liked animal companions (even the ones that were weak and did nothing) so it's good to get a taste of how a similar concept will be treated in this edition.

Every paragon path I've seen published so far has either Arcane, Divine, or Martial in its keywords, which denotes power source. They're also explicitly called by the power name of that power source: Exploit for Martial, etc.

I would presume not everyone is looking for chocolate fudge ripple for their ranger.
I absolutely agree.

Its just that we've already seen previews of the mechanical stuff that's in this article. Attacks that use the beast's attack bonus? Seen 'em. Attacks that do damage in a x form? Seen 'em. Attacks with range described in terms of the beast companion? Seen 'em.

I would have liked a preview that covered something new. This preview doesn't contain any new mechanical information, really. And its not a paragon path that shakes things up any.

I just think it wasn't the best choice for a preview, based on previous material already previewed. Its probably a perfectly fine paragon path.
