Martial Study of Mountain Tombstone Strike

I had no luck doing a search on this, so forgive me if it's been discussed to death.

The feat reads "Select any maneuver from the chosen discipline for which you meet the prerequisite." Mountain Tombstone Strike, which is roughly equivalent to a 9th level spell, has no prerequisites. Surely it cannot be intended that a first level character can gain access to a 9th level martial strike by taking one feat?

I will of course house rule this possibility into oblivion if it exists, but perhaps this glaring error suggests I don't understand something about the feat. Am I missing something?

What you're missing: it's a 9th level Maneuver, so you must have an Initiator Level of 17 to select it.

Yes, all is now clear. This book does a number of things very strangely, but I think I get it now. :) Wacky that Initiator level unlike Caster level or Manifester level gets increased by unrelated classes. It seemed like the point of the feat was to let a fighter, ranger, etc. use martial maneuvers, and I didn't realize such a character could have an Initiator level!

Thanks for your help!

I am betting 4E will have a similiar idea for caster level. Levels of main Casting Class + 1/2 levels of non-casting class (or 1/2 levels of a different casting class) = Caster Level.

I also love the initiator level idea, and have decided my own D&D games, should I have any, will give full initiator levels to Fighter, including some ability to gain maneuvers.

Hah! That's the precise house rule I added to my campaign. I want to give fighters some extra oomph, so I've given them full initiator levels and they can pick up a maneuver with a fighter bonus feat. Other non-Bo9S classes get no initiator level at all.
