HI
I just bought the R&R2, I think it's great. There is a spell called Mass True Strike in there, and my DM think it's too powerfull for a sith level spell, he has to think about it and will let me know later on if it's fine or not. what do you think about it?

I don't think its overpowered for 6th unless it has a duration of more than a single strike.

The metamagic "chain" adds three levels IIRC, which if you just meta'd a chain-true strike it would only be 4th.

I don't recall if true strike is self only or not. If it is the extra two levels is fine balance wise for a targetable true strike. Would make "True strike other" a 3rd level spell which seems reasonable.

Welcome to the boards!

I'll move this over to Rules, which is probably the place to go for balance questions.

You'll have a much better response if you change the title of your threads to something like "Mass True Strike". You do this by clicking on the edit button for your post, making the change in the subject line, and then submitting your changes.

I don't see anything wrong with it. It only lasts for ONE attack roll. Meaning that depending on the creatures that use it, it won't last very long.

Now Essential Blade or Shocking Bolt, I could understand. This isn't THAT bad.

I have a hard time understanding a Mass True Strike. Mass Haste, Mass Heal, and similar spells I can understand, since those can be cast on anyone. However, True Strike is a "personal" spell, meaning on cannot give it to others....

Could be very abusive in a party of fighter types. Especially when combined with Improved Critical, Keen, Power Attack....

On the flip side of that coin, a party of fighter types would pretty much be screwed by an NPC party consisting of spellcaster types, so it doesn't really make that much of a difference. ;)

My advice? Ignore those groups of fighters and always travel with a well balanced party. :)

I assume that Mass True Strike is identical to the 1st level version but effects 1 creature/level?

If so, I don't think that mass true strike would be much of a balance problem. It would serve to enable a few smackdown techniques (making the mounted paladin spirited charge smite smackdown somewhat easier) but most of those are corner cases and are functional enough without mass true strike.

Could it be advantageous. Yes. So can Mass Haste. Is Mass True Strike as good as Mass Haste? Is it as good as Disintegrate? Finger of Death? Summoning a Celestial Dire Bear (summon monster VI)? It's a 6th level spell, after all it darn well ought to be advantageous.

My estimate though is that far from being unbalanced, Mass True Strike is probably pretty weak for a 6th level spell. The only case in which I can see it being really powerful is if you are standing in the middle of a group of low level archer peons with one GMWed arrow each. That's not a very common situation. And, even then, it's not going to be really impressive compared to a circle of death, chain lightning, or a sculpted cloudkill.

Assuming my spell statting above, I'd probably peg Mass True Strike as a very strong 4th level spell or a weak 5th level one. For a 6th level spell, that's positively anemic.
