Council Membership:

Upon reaching 10th level in the Masters of True Iron, members are required to submit their item for consideration of Mastery. The existing council judges the worth of this item to determine the prospective members viability for a council position. (As a side note, only about 20% of the candidates for council position make it).

I think this is it, but if I forgot anything...I'll come back and post it here.

DOn't know what Pause and Multi-Item creation are, but just by the names I've been trying to figure out how to house rule the ideas into the main creation rules in a balanced way. Maybe a Greater Crafting feat.

Pausing creation and working on multiple projects is a fantasy staple for spellcasters. I think it should work its way into every game.

This looks like it should be a 5-level class to me.

Ahhh...leave it up to me to forget something.

Pause Creation...pretty simple. I can place a magic item that is being created into a kind of stasis, and come back to it at a later date. This requires a lab where the item will not be tampered with, there is no limit to the number of times I can pause an item's creation.

Multi-item creation...When crafting multiples of the "exact same item" the creator will pay full cost for the first item (minus any appropriate Master of True Iron cost reductions) then will pay an additional 20% per each copy of that item which is made simultaneously. Pause creation may not be used with this feat.

Ok, I had to read the intelligent item bonus rules a few times to understand them.

Now that I do understand them, still trying to decide if that's balanced or not. I mean, as the ability you get at 9th level of a tough prestige class, it should be a good ability.

But still, that's pretty awesome. I guess I would allow it, only because it's pretty focused and even with the reductions making an intelligent item is going to be a rare activity for the time and resources it's going to cost.

We came to just about that exact same conclusion.

Yes, it's a powerful ability, but seriously, how often is a high level character going to be willing to shell out the time, xp and resources for an intelligent item. But when he does, why should he, a specialist, have to take the same chance as everyone else that it could suck.

and just when i was about to ask if anyone knew of a prestiege class for a wizard for making magic items ... i like it .. its pretty well thought out and interesting .. though i think a lil' flavor text couldnt hurt ...

Well, I pretty much just rattled out the rules for it as best I could. The class came up on another thread and at the request of someone I posted the details.

I also forgot one thing that's pretty important. Once you take one level of "master of true iron" prestige class, you use your character level to determine what magic items you can create and the strength of those items...not your class level.

The majority of the flavor text would revolve around who the Masters of True Iron are.

The society is supposed to be small, elite and totally interested in the furthering of magic through the creation of new and wonderful items. Along with delving the secrets of item creation to push the known boundaries.

They are almost certainly going to be aligned with whoever passes for a God of Magic in this world, though not everyone need be a worshiper.

We've considered doing a less powerful brother class, Apprentice of True Iron, that doesn't require the ability to cast both divine and arcane magics.

I really like this, though it seems like it is missing something.. I'm not sure what, if I think of it I will try to post it later ;) It'll nag at me forever..lol
