I think a defender should have a top-notch AC, but not necessarily one that's utterly unattainable by anyone else. And that's represented in my party, where the defender does indeed have the best AC as a result of his choices. Beyond that, defenders have a suite of advantageous class features that make them effective in their roles as defenders. AC isn't the only or even the main criterion--not IMO anyway.</blockquote>
