Mastery of shaping - Archmage question

Can you fireball an area and leave out just specific holes for your allies?

The archmage can alter area and effect spells that use one of the following shapes: burst, cone, cylinder, emanation, or spread. The alteration consists of creating spaces within the spell’s area or effect that are not subject to the spell. The minimum dimension for these spaces is a 5-foot cube. Furthermore, any shapeable spells have a minimum dimension of 5 feet instead of 10 feet. This ability costs one 6th-level spell slot.

This to me reads that you can put holes in any of the above mentioned shapes rather than just changing shape from a burst to a cone...

Yes? No? Unclear?

It's clear. You can create "holes" to avoid allies within the area of effect.

EDIT: Yes - you are correct, is what I mean.

Ok, next question.... One of the shapable effects is an enamation. Can you move the holes as allies and foes move?

Possibly hands down the most useful archmage ability if you use any area effect spells regularly.

How else can you safely toss Disjunctions and Sunbursts (It's about the Blindness, not the damage.) into the thick of melee?
