Mutilated? Improved, more like.

Yes, I will admit it in public. The LotR books are god-awful boring. The Peter Jackson movies are a vast improvement (except for Faramir; but I can forgive one mistake with so many improvements).

Well, of course! :)

I don't know what it is, but it seems like it has become some kind of fad to call Tolkien's lifework boring. I would say to each his own if it didn't seem like you people were trying to make some kind of pathetic statement against mainstream society by calling his work boring because it now has mainstream success. Whatever to you. The book is the best and always will be. The more I study it the more I like it. Screw you haters who feel the need to call a man's lifework boring.

Read about Tolkien's life, then see if you are even close to the measure of him as a man.

No, but it would be oh so fashionable.
I'll wait for another time to declare the Matrix movies as nothing but 'leather porn.' I'm sorry, but I have made a lifelong commitment to stay away from fads. :p

I don't think that's quite fair. Out of my circle of friends, I am the only one that has finished the books. My friends thought they were boring BEFORE the movies came out, so telling people to 'screw off' because they don't like the books is not fair at all.
Alternatively, I could tell all the movie haters to 'screw off and not watch the movies if they hate them so much.' Wouldn't be fair either, no?

I don't mind people finding the books boring. It's the feeble attempt to argue the point as though they have some superior understanding of literature or characterization that I find irritating.

If a person just says "I found the book boring." Then I have no problem. When I hear crap like "The movie improved upon the characters. Yadda. Yadda. Yadda.", then I feel the person is just trying to push buttons and get into it. That I don't like.

"1" for The Matrix Regurgitated.
Possibly the worst sequel in movie history
Don't throw that around so lightly... Highlander 2 deserves that "honor"

I wish I could contribute more, but I've only seen the first matrix, and none of the LOTR movies. I'm still trying to read the books... *ugh*
