If being the Stone's spokesbeing would lead the character to power over the surrounding countryside (leading with an iron fist; oppressing the peasantry; sacrificing children to its Dark Gods) then that would be something that could make the character very powerful indeed. He didn't ask how he could better serve the cause of Order and Righteousness - he asked for power.
