Max distance for net?

First Post
The net lists 10ft maximum range, and the weapon description goes on to talk about a 'trailling rope.'

My question: if the net-thrower doesn't bother to hold onto the trailing rope, can a net be thrown farther than 10ft, or is that a 'set' maximum?

What if she has far shot or the distance ability on her net?

Given the number of practitioners of various martial arts who seem to be around, has anyone used a fighting net IRL? Or any acient history buffs want to comment (it was the retarii who fought with net and trident, wasn't it)?

A Net is not as usefull if its not ankored to something (namely you)

The idea of a combat net is to pulldown your foe. Once on the ground (pron) you get better attacks with a spear (the weapon noramly used with a net).

A Combat net is not as big as a cast fishing net and so you really cant just throw it on someone all by it self and entangle them.

As a DM I would allow this type of attack to have a range increment of 10' max of x5 as a thrown weapon and the foe needs to take a Full round action to remove the net if hit.

Far shot feat adds nothing to a Net just like it adds nothing ot a Whip.

The distance ability on the other hand is magic so it works just fine.
