Maximum amount of dice needed?

So can a Brutal weapon, if the dice gods hate you. ;)

Except that a Brutal weapon ignores the low roll- so there's no need to keep track of it. (If you roll a 1, there'd be no reason to pick up a different die- you'd just reroll the one that rolled poorly.) With a Vorpal weapon, though, you need to keep track of your exploding rolls.

Even with larger than medium characters, the most dice a weapon has is 2 (d4, d6, d8). The highest [w] power I can think of is the last rage strike, which is 9[w]. So far, we have 18 dice there. If you use Windrise Ports to get Warlock and Ranger, you can get 3 die each from those, for a new total of 24.

AFAIK you can't charge or anything with rage strike, so charging item die are out. My epic level knowledge is sparse, so I don't know about other things that add dice after the first 24, but I'm sure you could do more.

When I DM I use two d20's and that's it. For damage I just make up random numbers in my head within the damage range (don't tell my players!) and for large groups of minions attacking I roll 2 or 3 dice and duplicate/triplicate the results.

Err, OK. :erm:

As for the OP, there is no requirement to roll all the dice at the same time. 1 set of dice each is ample (although I am of the school of thought that you can never have enough dice - I have at least 7 sets in my dice box, and many more at home  )

They would know you weren't rolling 8d6 if they were there in person, so are you playing online?
