Maximum # of spells cast in a round?

"The character can cast this spell with an instant utterance, quickly enough to save herself if she unexpectedly falls. Casting the spell is a free action, like casting a quickened spell, and it counts toward the normal limit of one quickened spell per round."

Moral of the story - don't step off a cliff if you've already cast a quickened spell.

What I want to do is see someone do it WITHOUT time stop.

Why? because Time stop gives you several rounds' worth of actions - and that's not really one "round" in my opinion. Otherwise, you're going to be casting hundreds of spells.

The most without Time Stop I can see is four:

1. Cast spell as a std. action
2. Cast spell as a partial action due to haste
3. Casting a quickened spell
4. Spell activated as part of a contingency with another spell cast as the trigger.

Any other loopholes I'm missing?

Use "Repeat spell" on a few spells the round before, so that they are cast this round.

Then use "Twin Spell" on all the spells you cast this round. (A Twinned Quickened Magic Missile spell is 9th level).

You could conceivable get 10 spell off in one round, plus any spells that you imbued into your familiar.

Limited to strictly Core Rules and no suppliments or splatbooks, you could actively cast a maximum of three spells in a round, or passively 'cast' four. The extra spell from the passive method is a contingency going off. No, having your familiar or henchman or whatever casting spells for you doesn't count since you wouldn't be the only one casting spells.

Once you start using other materials, especially the ELH, you can really start to split hairs with the various metamagic feats and spells.

Are we restricted to standard humanoid physiology?

Multitasking (S&F), Multi-Head Casting (WotC website), and the Two-Headed Mutant Template (SKR's website) could lead to a very dangerous two-headed Marilith...

Well, with a haste on, you can pretty much cast every spell you know, with this twinkish chain:

Standard Action: Wish - all spells I cast in the next 5 minutes are casted twice as fast as a quickened spell.

So, since quicken spell changes a spell from standard action to a partial action, twice as fast would change it to free action.

Partial Haste Action: As free actions, cast every other spell you know.

Either I can't fathom your logic, or you are making absolutely no sense.

Uhm.....What?

If your DM didn't pounce on this faster than a soccer mom on a Tickle-Me-Elmo, you've got a good thing going.

Next tip: Sell yer DM th' Brooklyn Bridge.
