Here they are, swarms of creatures larger than Tiny. They're called mobs, and they're gargantuan (well, maybe huge and colossal are possible too).

A good way to state orcs hordes and goblin mobs quickly, ain't it?
I'd probably want to have a mob of 1st level human warriors statted out first, because no matter what I'll always see hordes of human mooks sent at the PCs.

I'm semi-interested in weapons of Legacy, if only for other ways to make your average weapon turn into an ancestral weapon that gains more power over time. (Yes I know about Scions but come on, another idea or two about this can't hurt!)

I'm with everyone else, DMG II and Angelfire about the only things in the upcoming months leading to July that I have any remote interest in.

The easiest way to do this is to hand wave it. When the character gets to (for example) 10th level he should have X gp worth of equipment. Give out X-10,000 gp of equipment and add a 10,000 gp ability to the legacy weapon. Poof. Instant upgrade. The character has no reason to question it. If you NEED a game mechanic, make it a +0 ECL template "Weapon of Legacy for Character X".

I really like how the OA Samurai's ancestral weapon works. Sacrifice gold = bonus to weapon. of course, you can't really make it intelligent and such from that, but that could be houseruled. :)

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll try implementing both suggestions. But still, want to see what Weapons of Legacy has to offer.

I was interested to read about that kind of thing in these threads last year, I've not seen the Dungeon 113 that Koewn refers to, I presume that is the original inspiration for the DMGII stuff too.

Yeay!! Someone remembers my work. Well, what there is of it.

I haven't seen that Dungeon either, but it's an interesting comparison betwixt my buffalo and their horses.

Under what I remember of my rules I'd still have more hitpoints in my 'horse' mob, taking up a larger area. ACs are different, but the underlying mechanics probably are as well. Hopefully WoTC's is cleaner than mine, although I think the 'Persistant Mob' trait is where my rules give out the love to PCs.

Heck, I'm just happy to have that out on the net with a timestamp before WoTC published theirs :) :) Take that, dark publishing magi! Free to boot!

On topic - yea, looks neat. The preponderance of tables in the excerpt does harken back to the old-skool. Hopefully they're not foolin on us.

Koewn

DMG II looks pretty neat.

Angelfire is looking pretty good also. Glad to see a Barbed Devil in the set!

The rest I am apathetic about. Though I'll likely look through the Eberron stuff.

Hmm, the Waterdeep book might be the first WotC book I'll be buying in a LONG time. I don't play in FR anymore but I love Waterdeep. The FR books WotC has put out do have a reputation of being very good as well.
