So, a 5 and a 1 then?

Agreed 100%. My quick review would be 5 for MM3 and 4 for FB (taking off 1 point for the 26 wasted pages of encounter tables. The 1 pg CR listing, like in the MM3, is what should have been done instead.) FB had so many cool ideas, though (pun intendedSnapdragyn said:Wow, I couldn't disagree more about FB. While I'm only partway through the 2nd chapter, I've liked all I've read & what I've skimmed ahead so far. I enjoy the crunch, & think the fluff on races is sufficient to serve as a springboard to developing my own unique gameworld cultures. I'm pleased that at least some support is given to XPH, too. My main complaint is the encounter tables; I'd far rather have a single page index by CR & come up with my own encounters from those. Overall, I'd say it leaves PlHB in the (icy) dust.
Wow, I couldn't disagree more. I think Frostburn is probably the best book WOTC has put out since the Draconomicon. For once, everything in the book feels useful, and they seem to have covered all their bases.Felon said:In case you can't wait for my reviews, the bottom line is that MMIII is awesome as hell, while Frostburn is a major disappointment.

Thanks. I flipped through the book in the store the other day and put it back down. It had hints that it might be a useful book, but I've been burned by too many WotC books lately (Draconomicon aside). Your review makes it sounds almost exactly like what I wanted in this product. I now look forward to getting it.MerricB said:I've written one for the 3rdedition.org site; hopefully it'll appear there within the next few days.
(Brief summary: I like Races of Stone.)
Cheers!
