McWoD Buffy?

As I pour over my books and slog through Buffy (this time on Netflix) I ponder yet again the use of my d20 books to run this game. So:

How well would the Monte Cook's World of Darkness d20 book mimic Buffy?

I'd say it'd work more or less if someone really knew their buffy lore.

There is, of course, the buffy rpg out there. It's OOP and I got all of the books except the super rare one for very cheap (I think about $5 each).

Those'd be useful to pick up even if you prefer the McWoD system. (They have the monsters, the characters statted, lots of lore, etc etc).

You could run Buffy with any D20. It is a bit of a stretch as Buffy Characters do not see the power growth you get with D&D style leveling.
the other is that the characters are somewhat specilaised, the fighting in Buffy is generally handled by the heavy hitters and the episodes generally follow the structure that there is an early combat encounter that presages the episode big bad. This follows with some research in to the clues presented, proceeding onto (with the occasional diversion) to the final encounter.
Magic is generally ritual based and for this reason I believe it could be best run in D20 with a modified 4th edition. Shorten ritual times and allow scrolls as partially complete rituals. Make more action points available, don't level 'normal heros' past 6th with the Slayer/Angel etc. a couple of levels higher or even cut it off lower and then only allow extra feats.

Use skill challanges for the research party element.

I think it would have to be nerfed to use McWoD. I'd want that system, if only because it's got a lot of potential (I like design work, so I'd house rule a bunch, but it's still pretty solid).

I mean, create a different setting and ideas behind the different classes. And there would need to be a Slayer class that's on par with the supernaturals, in terms of combat elements like DR and fast healing (or at least recovery during rest). Vampires would need to be different than in Buffy, though, in terms of the powers. Much higher budget SFX for one thing. And you'd need some kind of minion vampire stat block for the ones you make "poof".

Man I'd like to play this sort of game.

Incantations (which reappear in 4E as rituals) first appeared in 3E in Unearthed Arcana. Very portable to MCWoD.

.

If you're trying to reproduce the feel of the Buffy TV show then the Buffy RPG does a superb job, almost certainly better than you'll do with another game system.

The one thing that it does brilliantly is to allow characters of significantly different power levels (the Slayer and the Scoobies) to adventure together with the Scoobies actually being very essential to the Slayers success.

Question: For McWoD I've always thought that, in my game, I'd have Werewolves all use the full moon rather than different breeds using different phases of the moon. Never liked that WoD trend.

Would that nerf the game?

And as always: while I might enjoy throwing these levels into D&D as an option (skipping the obvious first bonus three HD), how heavy a change would that be?
