Mecha game in Poly #95

Oh, it's gonna take a lot to beat this one.

We need to get Dave Noonan on this thread to help us out with some details. The claw, bite, gore can be done easily with the standard monster attacks for the size.

I think there should be Medium sized mecha. Seriously. Iron Man is used as an example in the game, and yet there's nothing for him. He's not large by any means.

Also, component metabots. Say you have a large and a huge robot, and the large one transforms into a component of the huge one, but the size doesn't change. It just adds something to it. (If anyone knows where I'm going with this, raise your hand)

This is a set of rules and such that NEED to be OGC, because there's just so much to mine, and it would be terrible for other companies to make their own and have this become unsupported and forgotten.

Thanks

Let me hear an AMEN!!!
Seriously, the consensus seems to be heavily in favour of the rules. How can we, the players, have an effect to make this material OGC as soon as possible?

What issue of Dungeon is this poly in and what is on the cover?
It is Dungeon #95, and has some scary looking four-armed red "devils" (Xill) on the cover. One of the tabloid-style headlines is, "Sex, Drugs and Demon Lords."

As I've mentioned in other threads, I'm very much looking forward to getting this issue as I currently run a Mecha Medevil Fantasy campaign that I wouldn't mind converting to D&D.

I was actually sort of disappointed to hear that "Mecha Crusade" was SF oriented. With the word "Crusade" in the title I was hoping for something more along the lines of what I was running...:D

I didn't think that Mecha Crusade would be done in any style other than SF; it's just the default, I guess. That said, I don't really think it would take much work to "medievalize" it to fit with D&D/d20 fantasy. Escaflowne comes to mind as a perfect example...

So... When is this being made OGC? :D

Escaflowne, Panzer World Galient, Wares Blade, Rune Masquer, Aura Battler Dunbine...As a fan of japanese anime and manga long before it was "cool" in the states, I've got quite a collection of source material for the D&D with giant robots genre.

Questions on damage and mecha....

1. I see that having a mecha suit adds to your hit points. What happens when you are out of mecha hit points; does your character take the damage?

2. When does the amount of damage take your mecha out of commission and how do you repair it?

3. If you suit-up in a mecha that already has been reduced to 0 hp, does it work?

We very well may begin opening up some of Polyhedron.

I will point out, however, that the majority of Polyhedron's readers are NOT freelance writers or publishers. Whether or not that material will "influence" their future designs is not even an issue to them.

That said, I hear you guys loud and clear.

Erik, you will be a hero (again) if you can open up new and old D20 mini games.

Being a person professionally writing for the D20 system, I too find myself wanting to read the Polyhedron minigame from beginning to end, but hold myself back on occasion so as not to influence myself with the good ideas from it. I also agree with others that have said that it creates an unnecessary dichotomy between the "officially" released stuff (no matter how small it may be), and the stuff someone that wants to turn into an entire product line.

Of course the danger of having new material from Poly open source is that it could potentially endanger sales if someone else uses that material, but I would argue that the shelf life of each issue is about 3 months, after which time it actually makes more sense to release it as open source. At that time everyone listing it as a credit in their full length books ends up acting as free advertising for the magazine and would probably influence people to purchase subscriptions.

I also agree with the sentiment that selling off the magazines to Paizo could end up being the best thing that ever happened to the magazines.

A SUGGESTION

How about at the end of this year or the beginning of next year, you compile the Open Game Contents of the first 6 Polyhedron's d20 mini-games as downloadable files on the Paizo or Wizards' web site or burn them on a bonus CD-ROM?
