WOTC puts out plenty of :):):):):):):):) classes to. Mainly overpowered or useless prestige classes but plenty of the classes from the complete books line are total crap.

If all the new tome of magic has is 3 classes and you bought it then i think you got robbed. Since that would be about 6 pages out of 200. Pro forma then follows 20 or so pages feats, at least half of which will be +2 to skill x, +2 to skill y. Then some reprinted 2ed spells and magic items.

And anyone who cant figure out how to flip thaco and pick a few skills and feats shouldnt be DMing. Or creating a PC for themselves without help.

Thus proving you've looked at the 3.5 Tome of Magic exactly... wait for it... zero times. Or, heck, even read about it.

Meaning you're exactly as qualified to comment on it as someone who is completely unqualified to comment on it. :\

Heh, gotta love it when trolls get bathed in their own acid. :] Try picking up a book once in a while Boredgremlin, take a read, and then lets talk.

I mean come on, almost everything in the book has awarenes. Which has got to be one of the biggest feat wasters there is.
"Awareness" isn't a feat FYI.

BTW, I think BOZ might have some words for you about how simple it is to update older monsters. :)
It is definitely, NOT an easy thing to do.

awarenes, alertness, same thing. Its a half assed copout from the WOTC monster designers.

Updating them is painfully simple. You look at the type of critter and use that to decide their HD type. You flip their Thaco over, make a judgement call on DR and SR. And pick a few skills and feats. If you cant manage that bare minimum of creative ability you shouldnt be GMing.

While that may be true, getting the name of a fairly promiscuous feat wrong does not help your argument.

Updating them is painfully simple.
No, it's not.

Try doing it sometime.

I haven't updated or created as many monsters as other people, but I've done it enough to know that it's NOT that simple.

You flip their Thaco over,
THAC0 doesn't flip over to Base Attack Bonus that easily.

Creating a new balanced class or feat can be done in 30 minutes. Making something fit into a culture or creating an entire class or culture from scratch is creative writing. It takes days and involves way more thought and imagination.

I disagree.

Creating a culture is easy and can be done almost on the fly. Real world and imaginary cultures exist throughout literature, and only require a short walk to the nearest library if you are feeling drained of ideas. I definitely don't need the excessive descriptive writing that I find uninspiring, and poorly done, often reiterating the blatantly obvious. PrC descriptions are my case in point. So much excessive "suggestive" information. Please.

From Complete Arcane (picked at random): "The notion of an elite order of warrior-mages is not restricted to the Greyhawk setting. You can easily adapt the X to your own campaign, even if you do not play in Greyhawk. In the Forgotten Realms setting....."

No kidding!!

You didnt play 2e did you? Whats your library of books from it? Cause mine is over 50. And nearly everything i have in 3-whatever is from them, slightly rehashed and sold as new. For 30$ a piece i should add.

Actually it does. You must have never DMed 2e. See thacos is "to hit armor class 0". It drops every level. For warriors it drops on a 1/1 basis in both editions. So you just look at your monster type and look in the advancing monsters section of your 3x books and decide how they advance. You will notice each one of the monster types advances at the rate of one class or another. 3x is nicely modular that way.

Then you take that flipped THACO by advancement, add in the adjusted STR mod and you have "attack bonus".

With god only knows how many D20 books by different publishers all the mechanics are covered. Just go to a game store and page through before buying. Really its only people who buy online or dont read at the store before paying who have this issue.

I mean really, Barns and Nobles carries gaming books. Pick a book, go to thier In-store Starbucks, read the book and decide if you wanna pay for it. If your looking for class X-type, then pick a few and buy the one that appeals to you the most.
