Media Players - Which do you like best?

Ariiiiiise thread, ariiiiiise!

I need help with Real Player's converter. Or alternatively, "no wonder so many people hate this program."

It's long been an awesome means to convert file types for me, until today when I tried to turn a video into audio-only mp3. I got some message about needing a plugin (which according to the Real FAQ page is a feature only for the paid Real Player) the link to which merely took me to the home page and left me confused, then noticed that it said an update was available. So I got that instead. Plugin message now gone, but when I hit "Start" for the converter, it now gives a popup advertisement for Real Player Plus. I click "no thanks," and it takes me to a second advertisement, for "superpass" and a 14 day free trial. With no decline option. Just the X button to close the window and leave me back at square 1 when I try to click Start again. This is pretty frustrating, I was wondering if anyone knows what is wrong or how to fix this.

I tried web searching, all I've found so far is this unanswered help topic, and the 2nd page of this facebook thread. And the FAQ, which the way it's worded for the solution (if you have the free real player, try a different conversion format, basically) leads me to think that Real probably just removed the conversion feature from the free version of the program. Except without saying so anywhere and while still leaving the relevant info page on their help site unchanged.

EDIT: Some people posted about it worked while logged in, so I created an account with email address and password just to try and check if that fixes things. It did nothing.

That why I pretty much just use it for converting .flvs into .wmvs. It's not a full-featured application. The only reason I use Real Player is for file formats that Windows Media Player can't handle, in particular .flvs, or when there's a problem with the codecs or something. I haven't used Quicktime in years; and it seems that Quicktime's popularity has faded in favor of Flash.
