Media Players

Anyone got a suggestion for a really good, *free* media player that will play (pretty much) all kinds of video file, and maybe DVDs? For Windows XP, that is.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've been checking out VLC and MPC - I'll probably just settle on one of these, shortly.

Good to know there's some very useful free Windows software still being made, that's also free from malware et al.

Perhaps, but it would be a whole lot better if Microsoft offer free codec to play DVD format on their MP10.
Ah, true. But if you install DVD playing software, Media Player finds the codec and can play DVDs after that.

IOW, the codec is NOT free.
Correct. But (AFAIK) the only free codec out there is the reverse-engineered DeCSS, which I don't think Media Player will use. I wasn't sure if Aus_Snow had crappy DVD playing software but wanted a good media player, or didn't have DVD software and wanted something to play it.
