Meenlock's "Horrid Link" power

Yep. If you're affected by a power in 4E - you know what it does and how it works (such as how a creatures mark punishment will function - if any).

Not quite true, at least by a strict reading.

You know the exact specifics of the condition itself. So you know how Horrid Link affects you. You know how a Paladin's Divine Challenge affects you. You know how a Swordmage's Aegis affects you.

If you are Marked by a Fighter, though... you know that you've been Marked, and the basics of the Marked condition. You don't know about the Fighter's ability to take a free attack on you if you violate his Mark, however.

Essentially, if the details are contained within the power or condition itself, they are obvious to you. But if the enemy simply has access to other powers that interact with that condition, you don't know about them.

If a Warlock curses you, for example, you know that he will probably do extra damage to you with his attacks. But you won't necessarily know that he has a power, Cursegrind, that lets him attack just his Cursed targets, for example - or if he has a power that will have additional effects if he uses it while you are Cursed.

This is true. In this specific instance though, the extra damage is listed directly within the powers Effect description.

Effect: The stalker forges a link with one creature within 10 squares of it. The link lasts until the start of the stalker’s next turn or until the stalker uses horrid link again. Whenever the stalker takes damage, the target of its horrid link takes 1d10 + 5 psychic damage.
When I was first learning D&D, I was a but churlish when my DM used monster abilities on me. "I don't undersand how he can do that. Let me see that power." That kind of thing.

Absolutely! My apologies for not being clearer - I was mainly responding to Aegeri's comment about knowing how a creature's Mark punishment will work. Sometimes you do, if it is written into the power - and sometimes you won't, if he simply has another power that ties into it.
