Wow... Yahoo groups looks like it has the same features for free, but not the random exposure of Meetup...

The D&D Meetup in Lexington, KY has been very succesful. Our organizer has worked very hard over the past few years to hold a number of events. My current regular game is a result of D&D Meetup.

Good luck in your endevours. It took a little while to build a group of a decent size here, but it did happen.

AFAIK the only problem with Yahoo! Groups is that searching by area is difficult at best. Whereas meetup.com you can search by zip code, with Yahoo! Groups it's only by name. So if your local D&D group decides to call themselves "Local Dragonslayers 420" you'll have a hard time finding them.
