[MEG] Dry land: Empire of the dragon sand

Well... some things in it really bugged me, and that may have prevented me from giving it an honest assessment. Maybe I should re-read it.

Particularly, I thought that everything about the (fairly central) Jaisyn Bruce character was terrible. Starting with his name, and going on to his dialogue. Gaaaaah. Cheese. I think this was my biggest problem with the book.

The inclusion of Indonesian kris-knives in a desert environment was a wrong note to me, and I thought the ceramic armour was ridiculous.

Finally, I thought the tombs at the end felt very much tacked-on, as if it was a necessity to include a dungeon but one didn't fit into the plot of the adventure.

I do not think any of these issues will impact your feelings for Dry Land, Jeff Quinn wrote I:SoP and Becky Glenn wrote Dry Land. So issues with Jaisyn and the end will have no effect, but some of the items will be reused-so that may impact your decision. Please look it over and I would love to hear your feedback.

I think you'd be better surved compairing it to Bluffside as aposed to Sands of pain. From what i can tell they are two very differnt products. Sands of pain is primaritly a module, Dry lands is 100% setting.

It'd be like saying i didn't like city of the spider queen, should i buy the Forgotten realms campaign setting?

Well, it's like saying "I bought one product from this company, and I didn't like it, so will another one from it be good or not?" I don't have Bluffside and I don't intend to buy it, although I have a central city in my campaign in an amusingly/strikingly similar location, because I've got some specific plans for that city.

The fact that the authors of the adventure and Dry Sands are different certainly counts for something, and that the products are of a different type, but a company should be able to stand by its products.

Anyhow, I will give the book a look-see when it arrives at the FLGS.

Cheers,
Chris

Now wait a minute please...
I stand by my products, you asked your questions and I answered your issues.

I fail to see me telling you the differences of the two items "failing to stand by my products" We get good reviews, we get not so good reviews of our stuff, people are diferent and you did not like I: SoP, am I happy about it--no, am I trying to show you a reason to look at Dry Land--yes, does that lesson my feelings that my stuff is good and I do my best to release top notch items--no.

So while you may not have liked it I can show you a person who did.

You bought Necrmancer's Legacy and liked that so you would have missed out on that item if you felt we do not stand by our items.

I am slightly offended by that accusation and feel that MEG getting 8 ENnie nominations is a fact that we put out quality stuff, is it enjoyed by everyone I wish  but we try.

So while I am not happy with the fact you did not like it my goal was to have you look at Dry Land and review it to see if it was more to your liking, and I hope it is.

But for the record, I do stand by all of my products and feel we are continuing to grow in quality and by the increase in sales, I am happy to say a lot of people agree.

HEy Chris,

I see Hal got a little hot around the panty line here :) but please understand we try to see our customers' view points and address them for future products, etc. We do try to listen but it does not mean we are not standing by a product. We also don't want to discredit your view by disputing it, whether we agree on your points or not.

There ae plenty of folks who liked I:SoP. This type of material is highly subjective and individuals are given to their personal views.
Please do not confuse our openess to discuss and address your views and our lack of desire to openly challenge you as us not being supportive of one of our own products. We have a policy to address customer questions while not challenging their personal views even though we may disagree with them.

My personal take on Dry Land is the author went all out. It is an increadibly dense (word count wise) and useful book for desert like settings even if not used entirely as presented. I think you will enjoy it. But take a look at the book when it arrives and come to your own conclusions. We also look forward to your further comments

Hal, I think you've totally misunderstood what I meant. I did not mean that you or anyone else at MEG don't stand by or support the products that you've released.

What I meant is that it's not inappropriate for a customer to consider a company's reputation or their opinion of past books when thinking about a new book. That's all.

My apologies if I've caused you some stress!

Now you've gone and done it. You got Hal all in a fury. You shouldn't do that to Hal. I've met Hal and if there is a person who doesn't need unnecessary fury in their life, it's Hal.

"Blood...pressure...rising. Vision...blurring."

The above quote was brought to you from Mr. Furious of the Mystery Men.
