The backsplash from Guilds and Adventurers:

Guilds and Adventurers

through the leadership feat, or the armorer making your new shield?
Perhaps you fancied yourself a master weaponcrafter but found no rules
detailing your interests?

Guilds and Adventurers is a guidebook detailing 30 universal guild
prestige and NPC classes useable in any setting by players, their
henchmen, and NPC's alike.

However it does not stop there.

In addition, it holds within its pages a collection of 10 unusual guilds
and adventuring societies for use in, but not exclusive to, "The Hunt:
Rise of Evil" fantasy setting.

Want to be a dreamcatcher, hunting the living Nightmares of Gothos? Or
perhaps you are a mark for the calculating assassin group, The Lottery?
Guilds and Adventurers gives you everything you need to make these
groups a living breathing part of your game world.

Guilds and Adventurers is a must have for your D20 campaign.

Ok, I'm sold. The list of guilds is very impressive, and exactly what I'm looking for to insert into my campaign's cities.

The Lottery....
Oh, I was actually hoping that it was an actual lotto. That would be neat for a fantasy urban encounter....
"You walk into town to find a large crowd of the sweaty, unwashed masses standing around in a circle and holding bits of parchment bearing strange numbers and the seal of the local treasury. In the middle of the crowd an overly dressed bar wench is blind folded. A plump looking man is standing next to her with a bright colorful hat in his hands. The woman reaches down into the hat and starts pulling out little wooden balls that bear different numbers in red letters. As she does so the plump gentleman shouts out the numbers on the balls to the crowd..."

Sounds great, Hal. You've written exactly the book I would have written (and strongly considered for a while). The broad strokes are exactly what I had outlined; can't wait to see the details.

Will definitely pick this up!

Well, Dave, there are numbers and a bit of random fortune involved in the Lottery group (hence the name). So you're not too far off. No plump men with beautiful women, however, unless they're assassins. :D

Well now that's just great! :D From now on when I start to mutter nasty comments under my breath about the individual in front of me who blocks the whole line so he can rub off his scratch offs to immediately redeem them for more lotto tickets and scratch offs... which he does the same thing with... while the rest of us are just trying to pay for gas... I'm going to have second thoughts!
