[MEG/OWP] Mystic Eye Grows and with a twist- new imprint, Open World Press

oooh! I loves me some halflings!

Hobbit Stew

Ingredients: (feeds 20 people)

5 eggplants, cut into 1 inch cubes
salt and pepper for seasoning
12 tablespoons of oil
10 rashers of streaky bacon, diced
5 celery sticks, chopped
1 hobbit, chopped into 3 inch pieces
20 large tomatoes, skinned and chopped
4 cloves garlic, sliced
10 teaspoons each of chopped marjoram and parsley
2 cups of Orc Yummy
3 3/4 cups of chicken stock
2 red peppers and 2 green peppers, seeded and thinly sliced

Method

Sprinkle the eggplant with salt, and leave for 1 hour. Rinse, and drain and dry the eggplant well.

Heat oil in a large pan, and add the bacon and celery. Fry gently for two minutes. Add the hobbit pieces, and fry until lightly browned. Add the tomatoes, garlic, herbs and a little salt and pepper and cook, stirring, for about ten minutes. Add the orc yummy, bring to the boil and simmer for about five minutes until well reduced. Add the stock, cover and simmer for thirty minutes.

Add the eggplant and pepper, and simmer for about half an hour, or until the hobbit is tender.

Serve the sauce spooned over the hobbit.

Cribbed into the margin of the recipe you can see a number of notes in the drunken scrawl of the goblin cook.

* Hobbit pulps from our guards outside make the ideal ingredient, as the tough, gamy hobbit has already been tenderised by their clubs.
* For particularly hairy hobbits, roast them in a bonfire - this makes their skin nice and crisp and crackly, and burns the hair off them, particularly off their feet.
* If you can't find hobbits, you can use rabbits instead - for this recipe, I would use five rabbits
* If you have run out of Orc Yummy, you can substitute Marsala.
* With particularly fat hobbits, use non-streaky bacon, as there is more than enough fat in this dish.
* Ferris made a particularly tasty dish, which was enjoyed by many of the soldiers. Next time however ask the guards not to smash him quite so flat.

(I wish I could take credit for this mischeviousness, but I just googled for it:

((Oh, and I love this idea for a book and hope to buy it, halflings are one of my favorite races to play!))

LOL. Great recipe! I'll have to try to come up with something good for the book, too.

I'm just wondering if savage humanoids grow or even eat vegetables though... I guess so, because what else could you put in a stew besides the meat then?

Oh yeah and don't hope to buy the book, just do it! ;)

Update:

It looks like both the games I'm running at Gen Con 2003 are already full. :) I plan to give away prizes for best role-player and best "roll-player" at each event!

I uploaded some pictures from Gen Con 2002 on the web site at: http://www.openworldpress.com but they didn't go up that well. Hopefully, I'll have that fixed soon.

Just out of curiosity, are the shaman and witch classes completely new, or are they borrowed from somewhere else? A quick peek at the reviews page shows that there are already 2 shaman books (Green Ronin (I have this one) and Mongoose) and 3 witch books (Citizen Games, Green Ronin, and Mongoose).

We also have a Shaman and Witch class in our Hunt:Rise of Evil setting but the ones presented in Thumble are different then those established to date.

Hey Ed,

Only one of your pics was working. Man you look hot in that chain mail outfit. I did not know you cross dressed!!! :)

Yeah, I am THAT good. Glad you enjoyed it!

Do you mind taking a look at the encoding to see why the pics aren't going up? There are some more good ones there.

These are entirely new core classes! They're designed to fit easily into any campaign with standard descriptions and rules in the same style as the PHB. So, you get the Cavalier, Shaman, and Witch classes along with an adventure, a setting, and much more for just $14.95! There's a lot of value in here.

For example, the Witch Class alone has 33 great new spells including Dance of Madness, Disfigure, Dream Haunting, Hex, Inferno, Love, Mayhem, Sacrifice, Seduction, Withering Touch, and more.

The witch now has interesting new abilities like Shape Shift, Monstrous Strength, and Poison Immunity.

Several new magic items such as Cauldron of Witchcraft and Evil Eye are also included specifically for the Witch Class, too.

Please check out our Web site for any updates: http://www.openworldpress.com

You can never have too many witch classes. (seriously!)

I do hope that it has fairly standard Base Attack Bonus/Save progressions. That drove me crazy about the Mystic Eye classes
