Time to update the recruiting info for my undersea game! "The Deep" is in and apparently "Seas of Blood" (now out of print per this info ) is out.
After a bout of writer's block, brought on by a few slow weeks in my game and 3 players leaving (offline matters eating into gaming time), BPAA will get a new Chapter this week and a revision to the campaign background .
"The Deep" arrives, just as a summer of sea-related flicks show up in theaters; "Finding Nemo", "Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas", "Pirates of the Caribbean", "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen", and more. "20,000 Leagues under the Sea" and "Atlantis: Milo's Return" will be coming soon to DVD.
Perhaps a plethora of underseafaring supplements will arrive in time for "Shark Week" in August.
This sourcebook is concentrated almost entirely on the underwater environment. It is written from the perspective of the underwater races, who care very little for the surface world except where it impacts their lives.
The author, Susannah Redelfs, first read through all the water adventure books available, including Living Imagination's Broadsides, Mongoose Games' Seas of Blood and Fantasy Flight Games' Seafarer's Handbook, then took it further. Those books are excellent resources, but they deal for the most part with adventuring on the surface of the water. I believe Seafarer's Handbook has a chapter on underwater adventuring. Susannah wanted to explore new territory, so she left the surface out of it. As it happens, the draft she turned in was well over 300 pages.
And the aquatic race referred to in previous posts from the Bluffside book is the Sel'varahn. And yes, they are featured prominently, and further fleshed out and given more history. But frankly, I'd rather play a Delphine
