MEG's The Deep

On a side note, I noticed that Adamant Entertainment will be launching "Buccaneers & Bokor", an online magazine (PDF) supporting Green Ronin's Skull & Bones. I am hoping that, after the release of "The Deep", I won't be the only overly-vocal DM who prefers campaigns set beneath the surface of the sea. Should that hope come to fruition, a regularly-updated online resource for underwater role-playing inspirations would be most welcome.

Currently in jot-list form, I have the plans for an undersea mega-adventure, set in the World of Greyhawk as is my usual preference. "Turucambi" will take water-breathing PCs from levels 1-3, followed by "The Jungle of Lost Ships" for levels 4-6 and "The Sinking Isle" for levels 7-9. The adventure will feature references to Tharizdun and the Black Brotherhood, as well as elements from the Lendore Isles, Lordship of the Isles, and the Sea Barons. Ixitxachitl and kuo-toa will figure heavily, the latter since WotC will be releasing a kuo-toan mini and the former because I can spell ixitxachitl without looking it up. If I have to abide by the OGL, I may simply refer to kuo-toans by their 1e nickname; "gogglers". The presence of hags is a given, as is the inclusion of a half-fiend vampiric ixitxachitl (vampyrmyrmyxitxachitl) and a pun or three. Brain sturgeon, anyone? No? Migraine haddock, then? :D

Ahh, Aeolius, as much as I understand your joy in underwater adventures, you are correct to infer that "Buccaneers & Bokor" won't be incredibly supportive of them. Magic being a rare and untrusted power in the Golden Era of Piracy - I perceive the conversation going down like so:

"And then we'll be able to loot the hull!"

"So let me get this straight lad. You're going to wave your arms about and then we'll be able to breathe like the fishes. Then, we all stroll down and have a chat in Davy Jones' Locker with any sharks that happen to be lazing about with our useless pistoles."

"Well, sort of..."

"And, of course, we'll all be able to see in the pitch black of the murky depths to find that hull?"

"Ummm..."

"Right. Tell you what. You go down there and we'll stay here an on guard in case any merfolk get the same idea about coming to the surface. If you find anything, we'll help ya haul it into the ship, eh?"

:D

I'm looking forward to "The Deep" as well, in part because I'm certain it can only complement Skull & Bones. ;)

Tell that to Scrimshaw, the NPC spellstitched dread pirate bone creature who captains the Enora Norray, a sunken galleon commissioned by a covey of sea hags. :D

Captain Scrimshaw sounds like he'd get along fine with the legendary Iakavos Lyras, the last liche on Earth and master of the Rape o' the Wind, a ghost ship crewed by the damned, with sails made of the skin of flayed navy officers.

He's not big on the whole "underwater" bit - nippy fish and all you know.

:D

Rarely seen by the PCs, part of my campaign takes place amidst the drylanders, atop Synsaal in the realm of Those Above. Envision, in a region of roughly thirty square miles, rests two hundred spires towering a thousand feet into the skies. As most are hollow, they are home to numerous undead, while dragons roost in the heighst and humans dwell upon the many ledges of the pinnacles.
