Melee Weapon Mastery

It is hotly debated because there is some contention that it was originally designed as a feat that granted you the benefits of Weapon Focus and Weapon Specialization with all weapons of the same type, and nothing more. (This stems from the both the flavour text of the feat as well as the fact that if allowed to stack the feat is far more powerful than Improved Weapon Focus, a feat that has a more difficult prerequisite)

That said, the way it is worded the feat does seem to stack with other bonuses. My guess is that WotC made an error but in hindsight decided it was more beneficial to the Fighter to leave the feat as is.

Ask WotC if they concur with the FAQ regarding Weapon Mastery and Weapon Specialization.

I just picked it up with my fighter/barbarian. A friend of mine that had the PHB II pointed it out to me, and I took it because it was way, way better than what I had planned on taking-- Improved Wpn Focus. Basically, it freed up a feat slot, since I'm no longer taking Imp Wpn Spec at a later level. (I pushed the feat I was planning on taking at 12th level to my next fighter bonus feat and am taking Scorpion's Resolve at 12th-- should I live so long.) So yeah, Melee Wpn Mastery trumps Imp Foc/Spec, which is harder to get and less effective.

But... I always felt Improved Wpn Focus and Specialization were overpriced. I mean, four feat slots to get a total +2 to hit and +4 to damage? That's pretty steep. (I was planning on paying it with this character, but I'm happy not to.)

Thats quite a loaded suggestion. ALL wotc employees MUST concur with the FAQ until actually errata is issued. Because this issue is with the "rules text", that rules text trumps the example text that some of us believe was the intended benefit of the feat.

It's huge for archers and TWF dudes, but not for the standard twohanded weapon freak most people seem to play.

Still... it's stackable with RWM. :D

Yes, all of them, including the Trading Card Game Division employees, and after-hour cleaning ladies. :]

Don't make me go sarcastic on you. :p
