I always get RAM from crucial.com, but I haven't in a few years (no need for >4 GB). A little bit of a price premium vs. off-brands, and not generally what hardcore overclockers go with, but it's easy to find out what your system takes on their site if you don't know off-hand, and they resell Micron RAM which has a pretty good reputation (and the only American-made RAM out there, if that kind of thing matters to you).

What do you currently have (i.e., CPU, motherboard, RAM?)

edit --- Also, do you overclock at the moment, or are you planning to at any stage?

I have an Asus m2n-x nforce 520 motherboard, AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200 cpu and 1 GB of ram - PC2-4300 (266 MHz) Qimonda brand. I do not even know how to overlock :).

OK, well that takes up to dual channel DDR2-800 (PC-6400, iow), so I'd go for that -- in fact, it's what I'm still using ;). May as well get 4GB too, unless you're really trying to save money. Even with a 32-bit OS (if you don't know, that's probably what's installed) you'll typically be able to access more than 3GB, which is sometimes considerably better than having the better part of 2GB, say. Or or 1GB, as you have at the moment.

What OS are you using anyway? XP (32-bit) would be my guess. . . :hmm: At least, I hope so. Otherwise, you'll have been experiencing woeful performance from the hardware, I expect.

As for brands, any good one would be OK. For example, Kingston memory is pretty cheap, but fine. Anything more expensive than that will (generally speaking) be as good or better. You can always google the brand in question, see what comes up. Or ask about specific ones, here or elsewhere.

So yeah, anyway, I recommend 2x2GB of dual channel 800MHz memory. :)

I have OCZ RAM, which has been without problems so far.

Corsair is still a good name as well, but I have no experience with it.

Bye
Thanee

I was planning to get 4 GB anyways and I"m using XP 32-bit. I was planning to get Windows 7 64 since I know my system can handle it aside from the Memory :). I have tried to google which brands is good now a days but not its but to which is good.
