Mercenaries: Born of Blood PDF Preview!

Really? I thought all I did was provide fanboyish enthusiasm! :)

I have to admit that I blindly assumed the book would be solely fantasy/historical. That's taking some readjustment, but I'm still really looking forward to the book.

Looks good so far but on the feats...

Flexibility? Gearhead? Hacker? Information Junkie?

All right now every publisher say it with me: Whatever you're calling it skill focus: One skill at +3 or two related skills at +2.

Sorry, this is just a personal thing where I'm pondering why feats like this aren't gone yet.

Skills

Yep. They're in d20 Modern too. Acrobatic, Alertness, Athletic, Attentive, Catuious, Confident, Deceptive, Educated, Gearhead, Guide, Medical Expert, Meticulous, Nimble, Stealthy, Studious, Trustworthy, and Vehicle Expert.

All that, and no Skill Focus. I suspect Skill Focus may disappear in D&D revised.

I thought Skill Focus was "+2 bonus on all skill checks with that skill"? Although you can take it multiple times, the effects don't stack. So +4 bonus points is a bargain, so to speak, and better than Skill Focus, right?

Or am I missing something?

As things currently stand, using a +3 bonus for one skill instead of the published +2 for D&D's Skill Focus feat is a widely accepted house rule that even the designers of 3e acknowledge, if not officially. In fact, when d20 Call of Cthulhu was released, the feat was renamed Skill Emphasis and gave a +3 bonus to one skill.

Just a little bit of history before I head off to download the free preview. :)

Ahhh, thus my confusion.

As I mentioned above, interestingly, Skill Focus is missing from D20 Modern and there's more, not less, of the "+4 for one feat" stuff.

It's semantics really. Ignore at your leisure.
