Mergers, Outsourcing and Alliances

SO what do publishers and players think of the various things happening in the D20 community? I like the fact that Mystic Eye has it's Internet partners, Ambient and Natural D20, but don't know too much about how it'll affect Bluffside since that's an ownership issue.

The Interlink sounds promising, but until we see Lords of the Peaks, it's hard to say how it'll turn out. In addition, without seeing any other publishers hop on board, the impact may be minimal.

It's also interesting that Green Ronin and Necromancer have both gotten outside projects. GR's Guns (and hey, where's that Pirate book), and Necromancer with Judge's Guild, Necropolis, and Grimtooth's Traps.

I'm all for anything that brings old favorites into the D20 fold or updates old unofficial D20 goodies.

I hope that we'll see some Role Aids stuff brought over to 3rd edition one of these days. They did some great stuff. I'm probably one of the few peopel who enjoyed some of their City State of the Invicible Overlord material too.

Do you think we'll see more outsourcing as time goes on? I'm hoping that Slain and Judge Dread do well. Even thought I'm not into those settings, it might help clear the way for other settings, perhaps even some based on Fiction or more popular comics. Sojurn press anyone?

I'm really hoping that we'll see some official minis for some of the unique monsters out there. With ZN Games reproducing the old Heartbreaker stuff, and Reaper moving into the D20 field, it'll be an interesting time.

If you mean Skull and Bones, it's in editing now and is set for a Winter release.

We have another big announcement in the works. If all goes well, we'll have some exciting news at GenCon.

Cryptically yours,

As far as Bluffside goes, nothing will change, as far as will any of our affiliations with http://Fancc.org etc...and we just released a 15 page web enhancement with an adventure hopefully arriving before GenCon. The only thing I can say is that with a bigger product schedule due to the merger you should see more TG products as well as some of them coming out faster then expected.....will the expansion series be on the slate---YUP, how about a full length Bluffiside adventure---YUP, we will be working on the schedule over the next few weeks but all I can say is it is all GOOD!

This was a healthy merger and will benefit all d20 products from both companies as well as some of the non-d20 items like Giant Monster Rampage (debuted at Origins, and we sold tons) as well as some more cool stuff, so merging from our 2 companies standpoint was a shot in the arm that will make the new MEG bigger and better then ever. We have suddenly started to emerge as a bigger entity, and we like it!

Ah ha! Green Ronin to Purchase D&D!

(that's going to be my stock response to any further cryptic hints from any D20 publisher :))

Joe,

My concept with the current version of Mystic Eye Games is three fold, First, to continue to enhance our own product line (HROE, Arcane Mysteries, Foul Locales, and others) as well as deversify (Giant Monster Rampage) and build a strong multi-channel opportunity (Hobby Trade, book trade and eventually mass market), Second is to bring great porducts to the print market that otherwise may not make it by parntering with the creators as an imprint, and third, is to continue the consolidation and expansion that has started with TG.

Of course the later two will all benefit from the impacts of the first part.
One of the reasons I choose the parnters I do is that they produce an outstanding product. In every case I have spent time being able to watch and evaluate the potential success with these e-publihsers (Ambient Inc, Natural 20 Press, and now Vigilance Press) as well as the buy out of the Thinderhead Games property.
Of utmost importance to me is to NOT recreate these products and partners in my own image but rather to offer their diverse views and styles. When I work with a partner I try to look at additional marketing value but give little or no direction in the writing and style of the product. Itself. It need to carry itself on its own merrits without the MEG spin placed on it.
I guess the point is that the TG line will not change, the imprint partner products may be beefed up but won't be altered by us, etc.
I just want to put you at ease that these product will not be changed.
