metagagic feats

battle sorcerer is not a class of interest to her, after I advised her on how crippled the class is. I was looking for feats, spells & class combos to suggest to her. She likes/LOVES spell casters and wants to be a full spellcaster on bothsides of the gestalt
(gestalt: basically she will advance both classes at same time)

Is she looking specifically for Arcane//Divine build, or just a lot of spells no matter what?

Warmage//Beguiler?

Archivist//Beguiler?

Warmage//Healer/War Weaver?

Cleric//Duskblade?

Sorcerer//Favored Soul?

...Does she want to deal tons of damage? Utility? Party Support? Full Caster Gish? What role is she looking to play?

By 12th level, Mithral Twilight armor is affordable, and a 3rd level spell slot for Greater Mage Armor is pretty trvivial, too (more painful is wasting the spell known if a sorc, actually). Don't see why "casting arcane spells in armor" is so important in figuring this out anyway. If it is, though, I guess do Warmage//Cleric or Warmage//Favored Soul. In either case, max charisma, only fll up wis enough ot cast spells. If a cleric, use the divine spells for buffs / spells w/o saving throws so your low DCs don't matter.

Another option for one side is Warlock. Can use invocations in light armor and many of them are passive buffs, so it'd work decent with a more active casting class on the other side.

If doing a lot of spont. casting and metamagic, definitely get the Rapid Metamagic feat from C.Mage so the casting time is not extended.

ok so the latest word is she likes Sorcerer / Fav Soul
both focus on cha, more importantly, neither have in-class abilities to loose if prestiged. The DM has allowed her to use a double spell progression class on one side of the gestalt. In his words this will aid her, as she is somewhat new to the game. So what this means is she will be at 12th level 4 Sorc/4Fav Soul/8 Mystic Th./8 ? she said Pal for the cha buff and may fit well with her recent exalted find (BOED).

So with this build what would the feat choice be? She is going to have a boat load of spells (DM's crazy) I advised on alternate source feat - good decision? Again all books open. She doesnt want any spells that take a sacrifice (con-h pts) to cast. Player almost picked Radiant Servant of Pelor prestige class, but was baited by the amount of spells this pc will undoubtedly have.

Any help with optimization is appreciated.....she would do this herself but is grounded from internet.

thanks guys

Back in my day, we didn't have help - we build everything from the ground up, including the paper our character sheets were printed on! I had to pulp all the trees in my front yard for my first character sheet, and grind up all the flowers in my neighbor's garden for ink!

And by Jove, when I wanted to make a better sorcerer, I had no one to turn to so I had to write the book myself, and then upload it to the internet by manually entering in all those ones and zeros by themselves since we didn't have your fancy 'web browsers', no siree!

Tell her she's on her own. It'll build character.

If Dragonlance books are allowed, the Dynamic Priest feat from Legend of the Twins would allow her to be cleric/sorcerer instead. Favored Souls do have some class features, but clerics don't get anything except Turn Undead and spells. That would allow her to go Prestige Paladin on her divine side. She only needs a couple levels there to get Divine Grace, assuming that version of paladin is allowed. With that, she'd only lose one caster level and gains access to paladin spells to be used with Cleric casting.

Mystic Theurge is usually a trap. In gestalt, it can be somewhat broken because it advances casting from both sides on one side, allowing the character to take levels in another base class on the other side. Crusader comes to mind for this one. That's one of the reasons the gestalt rules recommend prohibiting classes like the Mystic Theurge.
