Capture a dragon for breeding purposes ...
How degrading for the dragon. :p

She is quite the tricky, seductive steel dragon lady.
I had the feeling it might be the dragon of Waterdeep; I vaguely remembered there was a dragon lady there, but not what kinda dragon she was or what her name was. I think I even read this article, many many moons ago.

Reading that article really took me back to Dragon mags of yore, of in depth details of single NPCs like her. Good times, good times.

I wonder 1) What kind of dragon she'll be (Steel? Would that be adamantite? Iron?) and 2) how they'll represent her as both a dragon AND a spellcaster of potency. Fewer dragon powers, more spells?

If it were me drawing her up, I would take a basic dragon of her type, and add a wizard template to it. I would then say she knows boatloads of rituels...

I'm more interested in what's coming down the pike. Subdual Encounters?

What are Orium dragons?

And who is Jalanvaloss? Regardless of who she is, I like that pic.

I remember in the old days (2nd edition), you could subdue a dragon by fighting it using the flat of your blade. After you hit it enough times it would realize that you could have been dealing lethal damage and submit. If you tried to enslave it though it would simply wait for the right opportunity to destroy you...

I recall reading somewhere that steel dragons were one of the new types of metallics being introduced. This along with brass, bronze, cobalt, and others gleaned from the annals of D&D history. Things like radiant dragons, whatever those are.

EDIT - Here's the link:

By way of another little spoiler... yes, the brass and bronze dragons appear in Draconomicon 2. We've got several other "new" metallics, some of which update dragons that appeared in earlier editions - for instance, the steel dragon - and others of which borrow older-edition dragons like the radiant dragon and seriously reconcept them. And, finally, we've got a couple that are brand-new for 4th Edition, too!
Cobalt is one of those metallics that's already been spoiled.

They could represent Jalanvaloss as a wizard by giving her a few wizard powers and rituals, kind of like what they did with a green dragon "warlock" from Draconomicon I or from a Dragon issue.

I'm really looking forward to this book... :)

And again metallic dragons are set up as enemies.
WotC is getting really predictable.

And they are also providing useful hooks to use so called good creatures as adversaries in a campaign.

WOTC said:
3. Even good dragons can be terrible enemies.
Powerful metallic dragons that serve good in the world can still pose threats to heroic characters. A good dragon might choose to destroy a band of heroes to defend some site or artifact, to fulfill an ancient oath, or to prevent a great evil. Given their long lives and their overwhelming pride and confidence, dragons think little of making the hard choices for lesser creatures and sacrificing the few for the good of the many. True compassion is rare indeed among dragonkind.

3 or 4 interesting plots right there without even trying.
