[Metamagic] - amplify spell

Plane Sailing

Astral Admin - Mwahahaha!
(apologies if the name has already been taken by epic rules or some other expansion. I'm running out of synonyms!)

Amplify Spell
Benefit: An amplified spell has the maximum weight or volume that it can affect doubled. Thus a shatter spell could affect 20lbs per caster level, a teleport spell can move 100lbs per caster level, a fabricate spell can affect up to 20 cubic feet per level and so on.

An amplified spell uses up a spell slot one level higher than the spell’s actual level.

I was thinking about spell variables that haven't been covered by metamagic, and it suddenly struck me that this is one which I don't recall seeing... so I thought I'd invent it. I wouldn't rate it as any more useful than extend or enlarge, nor as generally useful or effective than empower, hence my decision to rate it as a +1 level feat.

So, nobody thinks this is abusive or silly? What is the worst thing someone could do with this metamagic feat? A 9th level spell of enlarge/reduce affecting 90 cu ft per caster level? Anything worse?

Hmm...

troublesome spells with this feat could be :
the Fog spells
The Cloud spells
Disintegrate
Stone Shape
Forcecage
Wall of [Ice/Stone/Iron]

But I think they're all fine, as most have a "stop" clause.

Have you compared your feat to Widen (and the other MM feats) in Tome and Blood?

I haven't - I think the widen spell is *grossly* overcharged and use my own variant from nearly two years ago now "expand", which does basically the same thing for +1 level. Plus it starts with an "e" too!

I dislike almost all the metamagic feats in Tome and Blood. I think they make it too easy to change things which should be distinctive, or are (in some cases) vastly underpriced.
