Metamagic Specialist

Ok, so in PHB II we have the new Metamagic Specialist Rule for Sorcerers, in place of their familiar. My question is, do you think this is also appropriate for other spontaneous casters as well?

For example, is it also acceptable for a Dread Necromancer to give up the familiar for Metamagic Specialist? Warmage/Battlemage?

What about the other base classes also? Should anyone with Animal Companion be able to give it up for Distracting Attack? Give up Uncanny Dodge for Disruptive sneak attacks?

I am personally of the opinion that yes, none of these is overpowered on its own. I would be leery of multiple examples in one, but do you think those should be squashed on an as needed basis and just let everyone take any of the substitutes, regardless of class? I mean, clearly if its ok for Sorcerers, its ok for Dread Necromancers, yes?

What are your thoughts?

Warmage doesn't get a familiar.

Given that Metamagic Specialist was a pretty common house rule for Sorcerers anyway, I don't see a problem with applying it to other spontaneous casters.

Metamagic specialist is fine for all spontaneous casters (who give up something for it like a familiar) with the exception that Quicken Spell should not be allowed for spontaneous casters.

Otherwise, they can cast two spontaneous metamagicked spells per round at higher level, one of them Quickened. This is more potent than spontaneously casting an immediate spell and a metamagic spontaneous spell since the Quickened spell can apply to any (lower level) spell (not just immediate spells) and it can also have other metamagic assigned to it.

Granted, they are only allowed to do this a set number of times per day, but Spontaneous Quickened spells are still a lot more potent than either Spontaneous spells or normal Quickened (or Immediate) spells.
