Metamorphosis (phasm) + Metamorphic Transfer

No, Phasm keep their own due to this line: Retain special qualities of its original form.

So he keeps Telepathy and tremorsense 60 ft. He also keeps Amorphous for same reason.
Yes, he is a Pit Fiend that can see behind himself (no flanking). Not subject to critical hits ands immune to many things.

And you know, it says that a Phasm becomes the most fearsome thing it knows: so this isn't out of the ordinary form assuming it knows of Pit Fiends (they can't be that rare).

Oh, you were going just from phasm. I was thinking of it as the OP's hypothetical, a PC psionic character becoming a phasm and then using the phasm's alternate form ability thanks to metamorphic transfer feat. In which case, the PC wouldn't have those Ex or Su special qualities.

The Phasm's alternate form ability is odd, though. I'm shocked they don't limit the new form's HD to yours or anything. Also... Special Abilities :: d20srd.org
"A creature with this special quality has the ability to assume one or more specific alternate forms."

I'm trying to think of other creatures w/ alternate form. I know silver dragons are limited to humanoids and animals. It seems strange that Phasms get a "blank check" to me.

I think the blank check is the phasm's schtick, really. You're right that most critters have a limited Alternate Form ability, but the unlimited one is what really makes the phasm special.

Out of curiosity and a desire for clarification, what is "pun-pun" and why is it so broken?
Pun-pun was a Kobold.
The Kobold: the example that kobolds didn't come from dragons; Dragons came from Kobolds (they were first).

Pun-Pun has abosolute power: he has divine powers; he is and will ever will be a God. Infinite-1 ability scores, thus hps, etc.

He has every Extraordinary ability that can and will exist. He has a few supernatural, but anyway.
He is what happens when WotC makes stupid monsters in splatbooks.

Add Serpant kingdoms (Sarruak is a creature that grants the neccesary abilities), with Core= Pun-Pun.

At first he was a Kobold Wizard with a viper familiar using a scroll of Shapechange.
The reason because you have to have reptile features.

Next, he was a Psion with metamorphic transfer (because it was deemed easier).

Next he was a Commoner saying Pazuzu 3 times.

Either way, he gains the ability which allows him to be Pun-Pun.
