Meteor Swarm Question

First Post
I have a meteor swarm question. A mage casts meteor swarm at a designated spot. The meteors are intercepted half way by a bad guy in the way. I know the bad guy takes 24d6 damage no save. My question is what do the meteors do? Do they each explode in fireball like area? If there is a friendly in combat with the bad guy does the friendly take any damage when the bad guy gets slammed by meteors.

Here's a pic to help with the visualization.

I really need help on this one. Thanks

According to the SRD:

Any creature in the straight-line path of these spheres is struck by each one and takes 24d6 points of fire damage (no save).
If the spheres reach their destination, each bursts in a spread.

This indicates that the spheres would just inflict the 24d6 damage and not explode, nor would they continue to their target.

Wow, I have a hard time believing that somebody can take 24d6 meteor damage but the guy next to him isn't even bothered.

I understand it's a ninth level spell but damn.

Oh well, anybody else have any ideas or is it really that simple.

Thanks

Why not? If you cast a disintegrate at someone, they die, but the guy next to them also isn't bothered.
