Methods for a human to gain darkvision 60ft at by level 7 using core three books

Genesist

First Post
I'm looking for a method of giving a human darkvision, at least 30ft, preferably 60 by level 7. Please no classes or templates. Just is there some sort of item I could use or rudimentary way? I plan on playing a dwarf, but my build has MAD, so in case I have low rolls I will play a human (a cha of 11 is needed). We are going to be fighting a lot at night, so darkvision is important. And I'd rather not make the party drag along a torch if not necessary.

*typo in title, my bad

D258 Goggles of night: Darkvision out to 60 ft. 12,000gp

Seems to be exactly what your looking for. Quoted from the Magic Item Compendium, but from what I can tell they also exist in the DM's Guide page 258. (If I got my abbreviations right.)

That was perfect, a bit pricy, but right on for what I was searching for. Even if it isn't in DM's guide, he would likely approve such a simple item. I require a 13 int and 11 cha. The half dragon gives a +2 to both of these as well as con and str buffs. The more I look at it the nicer it seems. If my rolls aren't quite up to snuff, I may be asking my DM what he thinks of it.

Half-Dragon is a template though.

With items only, there's a potion of Darkvision (300g), based off the Ranger 3/ Sorc/Wiz 2 spell of the same name. A Belt of Dwarvenkind would work too and get you +2 Con as well. Aside from a race or template, those are the only options in Core really.

Edit: And the Goggles of Night too of course. That's probably the best thing for you. They're a Wondrous Item: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/wondrousItems.htm#gogglesofNight

Yeah, I'm just contradicting my first post by looking at it. I said no templates so that I wouldn't get some +6 LA thing that leaves me starting with 8 HP. Thanks for all of the items.

I don't get how Dwarf will make you too MAD. -2 cha just means you need a 13 in there, and the +2 con is saving you some points (if doing point buy). Just do dwarf. If you can't stand the charisma loss, Deep Halflings from the Monster Manual also have darkvision. If you want Darkvision but not small size, Hobgoblin is decent for +1 LA and includes Darkvision. Also LA +1 is Tiefling and Aasimar, the latter probably being better for you, both coming with darkvision. If this is your tripper idea, though, they are not humanoids and thus not subject to enlarge person, keep in mind. (Aasimar is +2 wis/cha, Tiefling is +2 int/dex, -2 cha)

I should have known the best core non-caster PrC had the solution! Horizon Walker's Underground terrain mastery gives 60 ft darkvision. You can enter at level 6, and the requirements are super easy with 3 levels in ranger (I suggest two of those be your 1st and 6th character levels).

Is there a reason classes are a no-no?

(Shadowdancer also gives Darkvision, but you can't enter till 8, and it's a 2nd level class feature)

Constructs, dragons, elementals, magical beasts, monstrous humanoids, outsiders and undead all have darkvision.
The following templates are some examples from the Monster Manual.

Celestial creatures have LA +2
Fiendish creatures have LA +2
Ghosts have LA +5
Half-Celestials have LA +3
Half-Dragons have LA +3
Half-Fiends have LA +3
Vampires have LA +5

Only the undead ones are acquired templates though, although by exception outsiders may grant you a template if you helped them out with something important.

He could be a feral human. Shocked no one has mentioned this. You automatically become a monstrous humanoid... get a ridiculous number of bonuses.. and all for +1. Mind you.. it's from savage species... but still. If your DM is dumb enough...
