Metropolis (The Heart of the City) - Chapter Three

At the Elysium Fields, Taran approaches Ghost when they have a private moment.

[sblock=Ghost]"I found something interesting earlier, while riding with Stephanie. The coins react to being near her."

Taran opens his palm, to show the image of the coin imbedded into it. "I touched her with the coin, and it flashed and disapeared, leaving me like this. No pain, but I think it means something."[/sblock]

Taran & Phoenix[sblock]"Strange indeed friend Taran here let me have a look the elf reaches out and takes Taran's hand to examine the coin " Oh, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your assistance with the young girl. " the elf says as he ponders the coin.

[sblock=Ghost]"Someone must, with some of the less than savory characters we seem to have attracted."

OOC: It's am impression of the coin almost burned into his skin, not the coin, that disapeared, as he said.[/sblock]

[sblock]He still has the coin though? If so he'll do the checks on the coin if not on the impression on the hand[/sblock]

[sblock=Ghost+Phoenix]No, Taran does not have the coin anymore. His is gone. You might have yours.[/sblock]

[sblock]Ghost will either do the knowledge and spellcraft checks on his own coin or, failing that, Taran's hand[/sblock]

[sblock]Knowledge - Arcana check (DC hidden) +21 - Partial Success
Spellcraft check (DC hidden) +17 - Failure
Bardic Knoweldge check (DC varies) +30 - Extremely Obscure Success
Spot check (DC 17) +18 - Success

Ghost looks upon the impression, comparing it to his own coin, then pauses, looking vaguely out into the crowd. The amount of old archaic knowledge that has crossed his eyes or drifted past his ears over the years is usually too much to remember all at once, but there was something about the coin...

Ghost's eyes drifted across the people in the crowd, eating snacks, playing with children, chatting inanely. What was that? The man, next to the ale cart, and the one near the gate, those three near the manor, they also sported impressions like Taran's.

It was a cult thing, it had to be. Ghost remembered reading about the Lords of Metropolis years ago, the original rulers of the city. They were a secret brotherhood that could recognise each other at social gatherings through...the...marks...they...bore. That was it!

The original rulers of the city were said to be able to access the very heart of Metropolis, but people never thought that the term was literal! The coin, the Heart...perhaps it all melded together somehow. If these people could access the Heart, if Zimmerman (and perhaps some of his friends) knew about this...could this have something to do with the Yellow Robes?

And what did it all have to do with Stephanie?[/sblock]

[sblock] I don't have anything to say, but I was feeling left out ;) [/sblock]

Jovik will stay with the group as it meanders through the crowd. His eye scans the crowd noting marks and judging wealth in a heart-beat. He wasn't doing it intentionally, nor did he nessecari;y intend to act on it. But this was how he lived and breathed, this was as automatic as a heartbeat to him.

Ru fidgets in the crowd. As the halfling and the albino elf keep private council, he continues scanning the attendees, looking for anyone showing special interest in their group, or those who might studiously be avoiding looking their direction. Both could be indications of trouble.

Ghost asks his comrades to gather around "I have something to tell you" he says, fishing his coin from a pocket he continues in a voice designed so as not to be over heard"The marks upon these coins belong to the old Lords of Metropolis. There are several people gathered here who sport these marks. Rumours suggest that the marks may have even given access to the mythical Heart of Metropolis. What say we question one of these men?" he finishes subtly pointing out the man next to the ale cart, the one near the gate and the three near the manor.
