No, the Force is with every living thing. Getting the Force to do what you want, or having it act in your favor...that's another thing entirely.

Still, it makes no sense to say it to someone like Anakin with 20K or whatever. It's already with him.

...its a saying, it doesn't have to make absolute perfect sense. And who says everyone in the galaxy even KNOWS about midichlorians? I'd doubt many do. Seems like a Jedi thing to me.

Its really like a modern religion today using scientific research to justify their beliefs.

Wingsandsword, you have clearly put far, far more thought into “Midichlorians” than Lucas ever did.

My advice? Don’t bend yourself over backwards to accommodate such a painfully bad concept. It might be better for everyone to just pretend it never happened. Like we do.

Umm, name me a modern (or ancient) religion in which I can lift X-wings and choke people and I will convert in a second.

It's also simple enough to say that the Jedi were mistaken... Midichlorians do not create the Force, but are simply a harmless Force-sensitive micro-organism that is attracted to the Force.

It might be that I wasn't paying close attention, but that was the impression I got from TPM - midichlorians were an organism whose presence was correlative without necessarily being causative. I never really understood the hatred for the concept as a result. In fact, it makes more sense to me than in the original trilogy, where some of the Imperials are dismissing Vader's "religion" out of hand despite seeing that the guy can pick people up with his mind. If it has real, physical effects it can (and will) be studied scientifically, so there might as well be at least a nod to that fact in the source material.

As someone who grew up with the original trilogy but has 2 of the 3 prequels in his top 3 SW movies (II and III), I must say that I hate the midichlorians too. There was so much that Lucas got right with the prequels, but what he got wrong he got wrong BIG. :)
