Midkemia d20

Or, equally plausibly, that he played a relatively normal D&D game and then changed the way magic worked in the books because he didn't want to write about Vancian magic.

Well, I think that's actually less plausible, as the novels wouldn't then be based on his D&D campaign ;)

I wouldn't be surprised if the early Midkemia crew were using things like the point-based casting system from the Arduin Grimoires.

That said, I don't see any reason why straight-up D&D wouldn't work for Midkemia, especially the current ruleset.

Right, because changing from Vancian magic to something that's easier to explain and write in novel format pretty much torpedoes the narrative continuity. Glad we're on the same page.

I remember reading something in the '90s that Feist's novels were in the setting they used for their D&D games, but the events of the books weren't drawn from the campaigns very much, if at all. IIRC, the campaigns were mostly set in a different area of the world -- amongst islands or somesuch.

Hmm, where's my Betrayal at Krondor map . . .

I heard that some of the character's were based on several SCA members in the Southern California area... but who knows if that is true or a rumor that started up during one of the wars at Estralia.
