Mightiest Dragon

Is the Adamantine Dragon still the mightiest of Dragon kind? I know it was in 2ed. Is it still around and as powerful? Has any other Dragon replaced it as the ultimate "physical dragon"?

Mightiest of the dragons in 3rd Edition are the Force Dragons and Prismatic Dragons, particularly the Prismatic Dragons, both of which are in the Epic Level Handbook. A mere wyrmling prismatic dragon could very likely wipe out a mid-level party of adventurers.

No, the mightiest dragon now is the Prismatic Dragon from the Epic Level Handbook, followed by the Force Dragon. I do wish, however, they'd make more epic dragons like these. I actually just they'd make more Epic material in general.

The Adamantine Dragon has now become a planar dragon native to Bytopia. You can get the stats for it in Dragon Magazine #321

Did they depower it then? In 2ed, it was just as powerful or more powerful than the Platinum Dragon..
Nothing is more powerful than Lord Bahamut!

Sorry. In character response. :p

As I recall, in 2e, the Adamantine Dragon always was a native to Bytopia. Nothing different there.

Hey there DragonFan! :)

If you are talking about WotC only dragons then the Force Dragon (from the ELH) is the most powerful* dragon race and Bahamut is the most powerful individual dragon statted. However, the seven most powerful (third-party d20) dragons are in the Immortals Handbook - Epic Bestiary: Volume One, wherein the Nexus Dragon (CR 416 for the wyrmling) is by far the mightiest detailed.

*I'm saying its more powerful than the Prismatic regardless of the official CRs . :p

I beg to differ. ;)

Has WoTC not addressed the Adamantine dragon yet? I still have the old 2ed Monstrous Copendium, outer planes accessory. It was no doubt stronger, more HD, more damage and stronger breath weapons than a Gold. I would suppose that would have put it in Bahamut's category in terms of power.

I seem to recall seeing an Adamantine Dragon in a recent Dragon magazine, so not quite WotC but Dragon magazine is 100% official content.

Unfortunately, and I might be wrong on this, I don't think the version in Dragon magazine was very different in terms of power, than every other (non-epic) dragon in 3rd Edition. But I seem to remember it was still pretty cool.

I designed a Titanium (epic) Dragon to fill a similar roll. I basically didn't call it an Adamantine Dragon simply because one already existed in Dragon magazine.

So the Titanium Dragon would be to a (hypothetical) Iron Dragon, what a Platinum Dragon was to a Gold Dragon, or a Polychromatic Dragon was to a Red Dragon.
