Mike McArtor has passed away

According to several folks on Twitter, including Mike Mearls, Cam Banks, and Mike Selinker, Mike McArtor has passed away.

He was an editor and designer at Paizo before moving to WotC as a copyeditor for Magic: The Gathering. He did some freelance design work for D&D as well.

Yeah, I'm definitely floored by this. Car crash. Completely out of the blue. Wow.

Never met him, but exchanged emails a lot back in 2005 and 2006 when he was at Paizo. It just goes to show how helpful and friendly he was in that despite never being able to publish one of my articles (the Class Acts section of Dragon mag kept getting reformatted whenever he liked one of mine), he is still by far the editor that worked with me the most. He is the sort that even months later would make sure to send a "Haven't forgotten about you!" message when most of us ordinary folk just wouldn't bother. Even just communicating over emails, you can tell how friendly this guy was. My interaction with him was small and pretty limited, but in just that little bit he made a lasting impression.

Gone far too soon.
