Military and gaming... aka 2 months in Columbia, SC!

Hey all!

Yes, I know there is a 'gamer seeking games' area, which I have posted in off and on over the years. This is more of a shout out for some short notice help.

I will be in Columbia, South Carolina courtesy of the military and expect to have a fair amount of free time in evenings and weekends during the months of February and March 2010.

Can anyone recommend a FLGS and/or local game to drop in on?

Thanks in advance!

I can't. But I will say some of the best gaming I have ever done was when I was Okinawa Japan in 1992-94 in the US NAVY. There is a huge amount of gamers in the military, many of them would surprise you.

I found it easier because I prefer Dming to playing. I found once I hooked people, there was a lot of gaming to be done in the off hours.

I'm assuming Fort Jackson?

Check out the Solomon Center. I'd bet with Fort Jackson being a training base, there's probably some games going on there during the weekends.

:)

Training base? I don't know fort Jackson, but if you are going to a training base, you might find publicized gaming groups at MWR.

I had my training as a nuke down in Orlando and MWR actually had contact numbers of gamers interested in playing.

Plus we had Enterprise 1701 comics and games in winterpark which made for great groups.

I found the variety of games at training bases to rival that of game stores.

Thanks all,

I too have fond memories of games in Okinawa, USMC in 88,90, and 91... had alot of fun there, along with the many other places I have stayed at.

I am not likely to play at Solomon, as I need to avoid any fraternization issues.. I was hoping to find an game off base where the on-base ranks could be left behind. My time in Camp Pendleton had a number of nice off-base places that we could ignore the rank of the people at the table and just have fun.

Have a great day!
