1% milk in gallon jugs. I buy Hood brand milk in the Light Block Bottle(tm), my wife and I both notice a significant taste difference when the store is out and we buy store brand milk in opaque plastic jugs. We will buy it whereever we can get it cheapest. Lately that has been at the convenience store - at least $0.30 less per gallon than the grocery store. Its a hook to get you to buy gas there, which I don't since they charge more for gas.

We get only T.G. Lee 2% milk. The size is merely of convenience so I didn't mark it (though we get gallon jugs since we consume so much). We consume it so fast in fact that I don't really care about the expiration date (as long as it's not already expired). We get T.G. Lee because it tastes MUCH better than any store brand IMO. The following is their link.

I don't drink a lot of milk, but I do use it in cooking. It's always 1% and one of two brands. I sometimes treat myself to some chocolate or banana milk.

My milk has to be ICE COLD. To the point that sometimes I put ice in it. I know watered down milk is gross, but I drink it fast enough that the ice doesn't really affect it.

My sister is the same, but it didn't start drinking her milk in that fashion until after she became pregnant with her first kid.

I love milk. If I could, I would drink it all the time. I like it more than butter, cheese, yogurt, ice cream and all the other things you can make from cow (or goat) squeezings.

Expiration date and health (skim or 1%) are my first considerations, with size and brand after that. I really like Promised Land, but it's expensive and you're on the clock from the moment you break the seal (they really mean 5 days after opening). Then Oak Farm is a close second. And then there's a whole tier of other brands (grocery store and otherwise).

The closest I got to straight from the cow was in India. It was unpasturized and now I understand why they give you the option of having warm milk with your cereal. :)

Pretty much only use milk for breakfast cereal; I buy a quart of 1% every week because I'm health-concious enough to avoid the higher-fat varieties, but think skim milk tastes awful. And it has to be a quart, because one guy using milk only for cereal won't go through half a gallon before it goes bad.

I've heard that the low-fat varieties tend to be lower quality milk, and therefore less healthy. On top of that, I can't stand the taste of skim. I usually refuse to drink it unless it's at least 2%, and I really prefer whole (3%).

Brand name means a lot to me also, because I really can taste the difference between brands. I'm loyal to a certain brand of organic milk because I like the way it tastes.

Another criterion - one that wasn't available in the poll - is packaging. I only buy opaque containers of milk, because I've heard that exposure to light makes it go bad more quickly. Another reason I buy my particular brand of organic milk is that they use opaque paper cartons.

I only buy milk from a grocery store. I only buy it in the gallon size. I only buy 2%. I always buy the cheapest brand (typically the store brand), but nothing that's been marked down for discount (meaning no worries about an expiration date).

nteresting.. never thought about the reduction in price as a function of exp date. I thought it was overstock...

Good stuff. Thanks

2%, chosen from the cheaper (usually store) brands. I pick the latest date from those on the shelf. I don't think I've tastest a milk that was considerably different (except milk straight from the cow, I didn't care for it).

Mmm, chocolate milk. And of course ranch dressing (mix my own Hidden Valley Ranch).

I've heard that too. But in my experience, the milk doesn't stay as fresh in the carton as it does in a jug (maybe it's because the carton doesn't have a lid to tighten).

There's a brand that's relatively hard to find in the US (but is massively popular world-wide) called Parmalat. Their milk stays fresh for many months (like, 6 months? Maybe more?) and doesn't even have to be refrigerated.
AHHHH GERMANY FLASHBACKS!!!!!! :D
Parmalat - correction it does need to be refrigerated, AFTER its opened, but for some reason, milk in a box never struck me right, it should only be wine.
